A property developer planning to bring 450 new waterside homes to the city joined burger stalls on Chelmsford’s High Street to show off its plans.Taylor Wimpey has launched a public consultation on its Chelmer Waterside complex, which will transform the Wharf Road car park area next to the Essex Record Office. The High Street event followed an earlier consultation meeting held at the Taylor Wimpey sales office in Wharf Road, to which members of Chelmsford Civic Society had been invited. The redevelopment, dubbed Chelmer Waterside, will include private and affordable homes, although it will not involve the demolition of the gasworks.A section of the land is being used for long-stay car-parking and has been earmarked for development by Chelmsford City Council for almost 13 years. In addition to the proposed 450 new homes, 35 per cent of which will be affordable housing, the plans include new public gardens and cafe space, as well as improved cycle and pedestrian links to the rest of the city. The development will fund a new Riverside leisure complex.
