First Properties Completed as Part of Major Council Home-Building Scheme
The first new properties have been completed as part of a major Council home-building programme in Waltham Forest. 207 new homes for social rent will be developed in total, the majority of which are being built on former garage sites owned by the Council.The official handover of the first two properties, located on a former garage site at St Leonards Avenue in Highams Park, took place earlier today (19 April), attended by representatives from the Council and contractor Keepmoat.All of the homes being delivered as part of the programme will be made available for social rent, under the ownership of Waltham Forest Council. The properties will be a mixture of houses and flats, and will all be built to high sustainability standards. The properties completed at St Leonards Avenue are two three-bedroom houses, fitted with solar panels and an efficient gas boiler to help keep energy costs down.The development of these homes is being delivered under several separate contracts, with delivery being phased over the next few years.The first contact will deliver 11 new family homes, which are due to be completed by spring 2017. As well as St Leonards Avenue this includes new developments in Titley Close, Chingford; Southwell Grove Road, Leytonstone; St Stephens Close, Walthamstow; Rosslyn Road, Walthamstow; and Valognes Avenue, Walthamstow.
