The contracting authority currently holds a contract for the mentioned items which will expire 31.11.2015. The requirement for this interim contract has come about as a result of delays in the forthcoming contract. This interim agreement with existing suppliers is to ensure a continuous supply to NHS Wales, without disruption to the service.
The aim of the forthcoming contract is to establish one supplier to service the whole of NHS Wales for the bulk of the products. This approach will assist with interlinking training and practise between Health Boards/Trusts and hospitals, and ensure that the service obtains maximum value from the procurement exercise.
Due to the complex nature of the objective of the contracting process (i.e. moving from a multi-supplier framework to a single supplier contract), the procurement process encountered delays within the planning phase. The tender was initially advertised (advert number 2015/S 164-299805) and was published 20.8.2015, however was suspended on the 26.8.2015 as there was a requirement to amend content within the ITT.
NWSSP are currently undertaking an OJEU Procurement exercise and the new start date for the contract will be the 1.3.2016.
