One New Bailey moves one step closer with contract award
Bowmer & Kirkland has been awarded Salford One New Bailey contract.
The English Cities Fund (ECf) has appointed contractor Bowmer & Kirkland to deliver its One New Bailey development on the banks of the River Orwell in Salford.
The 125,000sq ft eight-storey office development has ben funded by Legal and General and marks a key milestone in the New Bailey Scheme. The overall scheme includes a 615 space multi-storey car park which is currently under construction and a 143-bed Premier Inn which was also constructed by Bowmer & Kirkland. The Premier Inn is due to open in November following its completion last month.
Construction of the One New Bailey building started on October 20th on the site of the former Raili Courts Building which had been demolished. It provides large floor plates of up to 17,212sq ft and will be developed to a BREEAM Excellent standard. The ground floor will incorporate a number of leisure opportunities including a range of vibrant cafes, bars and restaurants, and there will be an enhanced public realm to the exterior in the form of a new public square and outdoor events space, all of which will be accessed from the existing pedestrian bridge from Spinningfields.
Neil Brook, Bowmer & Kirkland North West Regional Director, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed on the next phase of the New Bailey development and look forward to furthering our relationship with ECf on what is a very important project being the first office development.”
Phil Mayall, development director at ECf, said: “Appointing a contractor on One New Bailey is another giant step forward in developing this exciting scheme, which will deliver much needed, high quality office space in an excellent city centre location.
“We are very pleased to have appointed Bowmer & Kirkland on One New Bailey as they have already completed the Premier Inn to the agreed timescales and budget. We look forward to continuing to work with the team going forward.”
ECf is a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal and General and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). One New Bailey is due for completion during 2016.
