Screwfix Factory
Product: Drainage
Project: Screwfix Factory
Contractor: Bluestone of Manchester
Project Brief
A factory owned and designed specifically for Screwfix Ltd by St Modwen Developments of Birmingham. The complete drainage scheme was designed by Mr. David Payne, consultant engineer of Nolan Associated of Birmingham.
Mr. Payne’s concept was that by incorporating two manholes instead of two pumping stations, in the drainage system, it would enable him to achieve considerable savings on the installation costs.
CPM Solution
CPM supplied their Surge Manholes which is an automatic flushing system which is designed to keep drains clear of settleable solids, grits and silt and require no energy input and is maintenance free thereby eliminating any ongoing future costs.
Client Comments
Initial viewing on the site with the Bluestone Contracts Manager, Mr. Tony Humphries, has proven the system to be very successful, so much so a delegation from Yorkshire Water plc Projects Department based in Bradford, headed by Mr. David Oldknow has since visited the site to witness the system in operation. During the trial flushes extra gravel type material was placed in the next few manholes, starting approximately 50 meters away from the Surge Manhole, this material was washed away down the line after the first flushing action was activated, showing how effective the system is.
