Healthcare Estates continues to grow
#HCEstates16 @HCEstates
Healthcare Estates 2016 conference, exhibition, and dinner—as always—provided plenty of interesting subject matter for attendees to get their teeth into. Delivering more content than ever before with five theatres on the exhibition floor covering Water & Infection Control, Specification & BIM, Energy & Efficiency, Hospital Engineering and Mental Health & Dementia; they supported the main conference programme. The conference presented keynote sessions on both days along with three streams devoted to Strategy, Engineering and Facilities Management and Design & Construction all offering nearly 60 hours of CPD accredited content.
The Healthcare Estates exhibition consisted of 210 stands representing over 220 organisations offering unparalleled networking opportunities. Taking place on the 4th & 5th October at Manchester Central Healthcare Estates Exhibition, Conference and Dinner attracted an audience of over 3,500 attendees*.
Attendance was up 5% on day one, resulting in a busy day on the exhibition floor and packed opening keynote presentations from the project director at the new Alder Hey in the Park Children’s Hospital, David Powell, the national director of Clinical Productivity, Professor Tim Evans, and on day two, the DH’s Director General of Finance, David Williams. The keynotes provided some particularly interesting and thought provoking content, highlighting the continuing financial and practical challenges estates and other healthcare professionals face, and, in the case of David Powell’s presentation especially, just how innovative, responsive, and imaginative the sector can be in developing ‘solutions’ to estates related and wider healthcare issues. The keynote presentations were followed by a panel discussion Chaired by Simon Corben, CAPITA. Professor Tim Evans and David Powell joined by Peter Sellars, Department of Health, Clive Nattrass, Carbon Energy Fund, and Julian Amey, IHEEM
On the evening of the first day, the 2016 IHEEM Awards Dinner also highlighted innovation, alongside the dedication, hard work, creativity, and inspiring ideas of professionals working both within estates and facilities roles, and the associated architectural and construction supply chain. The judges noted that they had received an unprecedented number of entries for the 2016 Product of the Year Award, reinforcing both the value the sector attaches to the Institute’s annual awards, and suppliers’ ability to recognise the challenges the NHS faces, and to respond accordingly with great ideas.
The IHEEM AGM saw Chris Northey, IHEEM’s President for the previous two years, hand over the chain of office to DH’s Peter Sellars, an individual known throughout the sector as a committed, enthusiastic, and determined advocate of the importance of a really high quality estate to first-class care, and, equally, a strong champion of estates professionals.
Official attendance for the exhibition, conference and dinner was similar to 2015. Healthcare Estates Exhibition had more visitors with 1,768 visitor attendees up 241 on the previous year, plus 387 VIP’s working with, or for the NHS and private healthcare providers representing senior estates professionals from many of the UK’s leading hospital trusts in the UK.
Visitor and delegate attendance over the two days was 2,617 (excluding exhibitors and attendees to the dinner). Total attendance was in excess of 3,500 including visitors, delegates, speakers, dinner attendees and exhibitor guests to this year’s Exhibition, Conference and Dinner.
Attendees were able to network with 210 exhibitors; an increase on the previous year. Exhibitors in 2016 represented more than 220 suppliers to the Healthcare sector.
462 delegates and speakers attended the two day conference, while nearly 500 attended the IHEEM dinner which saw eight award categories presented. The awards were hosted by NHS doctor, campaigner, health writer, investigative journalist, broadcaster, speaker and comedian Dr Phil Hammond and special guest Dame Esther Rantzen who was there for the dinner charity, ChildLine who celebrate 30 years this year.

Exhibitor numbers grew, helped by the addition of a new area for Water Management and Infection prevention. New theatres, new areas and a significant increase in promotion of the event helped attendance grow resulting in a busy show and conference.

We at Kemper UK & Ireland Ltd would like to thank the guys from Step for another very well organised Healthcare Estates at Manchester Central this year.
For us as a Public Health organisation, it was great to talk and to demonstrate our latest technology to the right people. It’s not always about the quantity of people visiting the stand, but the quality. This year was no exception, with a very high quality of consultants, designers, Facility Managers etc. visiting our stand. Thank you to all that took the time to visit us, we look forward to another great exhibition in 2017. Chris Rhodes, Managing Director, Kemper UK & Ireland Ltd
