SkySiren® PCS™ named ‘Product of the Year’ at British Sign Awards
Nationwide Platforms’ intelligent secondary guarding system, SkySiren® PCS™ – which utilises ultrasonic sensors to minimise the risk of operator entrapment – has gained further industry recognition after being awarded ‘Product of the Year’ at the BSGA British Sign Awards.
Organised by the British Sign & Graphics Association (BSGA) to recognise and reward excellence in the UK sign sector, the award categories were decided by an independent panel of industry experts. Due to the coveted nature of the ‘Product of the Year’ category however, the winning entry was decided by the BSGA’s sign maker members, with SkySiren® PCS™ receiving the highest number of votes.
David Catanach, British Sign and Graphics Association (BSGA) Director, said: “We would like to congratulate Nationwide Platforms on its success in the Product of the Year category at this year’s British Sign Awards. The award is decided by an anonymous poll of BSGA sign maker members and SkySiren PCS came out top against strong competition. Anything that increases the safety of people and reduces the risk of accidental damage to structures whilst working at height is to be applauded and the vote by our members did just that.”
The growing use of powered access in the sign industry has made the installation of signs at height significantly safer and more efficient, however certain hazards – such as operator entrapment and accidental damage to buildings and equipment – still exist.
Developed by BlueSky Solutions, Lavendon Group’s dedicated research and development division, SkySiren® PCS™ (Pre-Crush Sensing) is the latest advancement in secondary guarding, offering the highest level of protection against operator entrapment. This is achieved with the introduction of ultrasonic sensors which detect and alert operators of potential entrapment hazards before they occur. The company’s pioneering SkySiren® pressure sensing secondary guarding device also acts as a failsafe, making it the first system on the market to offer double protection.
As well as setting new standards in safety, SkySiren® PCS™ also improves operator awareness and minimises potential damage to both the platform and surrounding structures – ultimately reducing costs and downtime. These benefits, coupled with its impact to the sign industry, proved instrumental to the BSGA members voting it ‘Product of the Year’.
Peter Douglas, Nationwide Platforms Operations Director, said: “We are honoured that SkySiren PCS has been recognised by the sign industry. The safety of our customers is our ultimate priority and we continually work with the BSGA and its members to help raise standards and improve working at height best practice. The
success of SkySiren PCS is a testament to our hard work and demonstrates our dedication to safety and innovation.”
Nick Cotton, Owner of Cotton Signage, added: “By placing your trust in Nationwide Platforms, you are partnering with powered access experts who can be relied on to carefully analyse the specific job requirements and ensure that the correct solution is safely employed. Nationwide Platforms’ staff have the capability, integrity, knowledge, skills, abilities and competence commensurate with their role and high level of responsibility.”
Introduced at the company’s Working at Height Best Practice Forum last year (see: http://bit.ly/2015WAHpr), SkySiren® PCS™ has been adopted for applications across a wide range of industry sectors. It was awarded ‘Product of the Year’ at both the Hire Association Europe (HAE) and Tomorrow’s H&S awards as well as named a finalist at the International Awards of Powered Access (IAPA) and Construction News awards.
