North Foreshore Regeneration Project Update

There have been significant changes to the North Foreshore Regeneration Project since our last report; over 2,400m of kerbs have been installed, 33 wooden street lighting columns have been erected and approximately 14,500 m² of tar has been laid using our brand new tar spreader.

All materials used in previous operations have been removed and reused within the road structure; sub-soil and topsoil are being laid and stockpiled for future use on the road banks and planting areas.

We have recently started preparing the banks of the roads with flattened areas where trees are to be planted, which will hopefully attract wildlife to the area; earth-moving operations are almost complete, with more focus being placed on the installation of services such as electricity, water, communications and gas.

The use of a combined kerb and drainage system allows rainwater to be removed from the road surface much faster and is a more efficient use of materials.
The main challenge we have faced has been the recent chain of storms which have flooded some excavations; we have created temporary drainage systems and used industrial pumps to remove excess water from the main work areas.
Work is continuing to progress well but please be aware of the closure of the nearby cycle lane from Monday 7th to Friday 11th March 2016; this is to allow the foundation of the road structure to be built where it meets the existing Dargan road.

The precast concrete units are a simple and cost-efficient means of installing an earth retaining barrier. In the case of the Tividale scheme, we have clad the exposed element of the wall with a brick finish another benefit of the smooth factory finish.

The FP McCann technical and commercial teams at Lydney have worked closely with us throughout the programme of delivery and installation of the panels. The robust precast concrete walling system in place will accommodate any changes in  the use of the facility by Peel Ports in the future.
