KIRK UK help increase capacity at Pyewipe Wwtw
Major upgrade works at Anglian Water’s Pyewipe WwTW at Grimsby, Lincolnshire, have been completed by KIRK UK.
An increase in the capacity of the Sludge Treatment Centre was required, resulting in increased production of renewable electricity for the operations of both sites.
Following determination by Ofwat, Anglian Water had an obligation to deliver the following outputs by March 2015; Increase total capacity for sludge treatment to enhanced treated standards across the Anglian Water region form 46% to a minimum of 80%, increase total on site renewable electricity generation from biogas to 86.8GWh/year and reduce biosolids treatment by lime stabilisation to less than one per cent of the total raw sludge production.
Pyewipe WwTW was recognised as one of five key sites where the upgrade were possible and would deliver the outcomes as required.
Four Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS) tanks were designed, supplied and constructed by KIRK UK, complete with four GFS roofs. KIRK also showcased their state-of-the-art access steelwork, by providing access to the top of each tank via a multi flight access staircase leading from ground level to a 14m high walkway. From the top of the staircase, a straight self-supporting one metre wide walkway runs approximately 18m in parallel with the HPH Buffer Tank and two Pasteurisation Tanks, whilst access to the Hydrolysis Tank roof was achieved with a separate eight metre long walkway.
