£1 billion Beam Park development approved by Deputy Mayor of London

A £1 billion mixed use development at Beam Park in East London has been approved by the Deputy Mayor of London, Jules Pipe.
The announcement, confirmed on Monday by Countryside and GLA, will ensure delivery of over 3,000 new homes on a 29-hectare site at Beam Park – formerly a Ford manufacturing plant. Crucially, it is one of only three regeneration schemes in the capital to deliver more than 2,500 homes and provide 50% affordable housing. In Beam Park’s case, this equates to 1,513 affordable homes.
In addition, the regeneration will provide a new railway station and medical centre, which will serve not only local residents but also up to 7,000 people in the wider community. New schools will be built alongside retail space, a gym, nursery, community facilities, a multi-faith space and two energy centres.
Robert Wilkinson, Managing Director for Partnerships (East London) at Countryside, said: “We are delighted to have received the green light for our hugely exciting plans at Beam Park. This project, in partnership with L&Q and supported by the Mayor of London, is an incredible opportunity to regenerate this part of the capital, and with 50% affordable housing, will make a huge contribution to meeting local housing needs.
“We were encouraged by the vast responses and co-operation of the local community during our consultation process, who were extremely supportive of our proposals. Beam Park is an essential component of the mayor’s commitment to providing new homes for Londoners and we are proud to be playing a key role in delivering not just affordable homes but also vital infrastructure, which will play a vital role in ensuring the new Beam Park community is sustainable and cohesive for generations to come.”
