Bradford Markets to be regenerated

Bradford City Council have appointed the contractor company Kier Construction to deliver a project that will redevelop and regenerate Bradford Markets on Darley Street, after being procured through the YORbuild2 framework at a cost of £21M.
Going into further detail, the construction process on the Bradford Markets, which will begin in Spring, will commence with the demolition of various vacant buildings before constructing a new multi-storey market building and public square on Piccadilly Street and Daley Street which will provide modern facilities while also revitalising the local area.
One challenge that was presented by this project was the fact that the site is on a slope, meaning that the designs have included two ground floors, one of which can be accessed from Daley Street and the other from the market square, while the designs also suggest a large glass façade.
As has already been stated, construction on this project is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2020 and will continue until 2022.
The Operations Director at Kier Regional Building Northern, Phil McDowell stated: “This vital regeneration project is the largest to be undertaken in Bradford and will provide a dynamic, vibrant and diverse shopping location for visitors. We are thrilled to be appointed as preferred bidder to work with Bradford Council and are committed to delivering a project that benefits the community, whilst also acknowledging the heritage and history of Darley Street as a historic market street.”
The Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning, and Transport, Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw added: “With our recent announcements on working with Muse Developments for One City Park and Morgan Sindell for Forster Square station, this really shows that momentum is building in Bradford with some fantastic projects all moving forward at pace.”
