Central School of Ballet to receive new studio building in Southwark

The Central School of Ballet in Southwark, London, is set to benefit from the impending completion of a new studio building named ‘The Countess of Wessex Studios’ ahead of the 2020/21 academic year which commences in September.

Going into more detail, the new Central School of Ballet building is currently under construction by the contractor company Kier and will feature brand new facilities such as dance studios with specialist floors and a health suite that can cater to the nutritional, physical, and psychological needs of students.

A naming ceremony recently took place at the development with the building’s namesake and the royal patron of the Central School of Ballet, HRH the Countess of Wessex being in attendance.

The Managing Director of Specialist Services at Kier, Mark Whittaker stated: “Today, we were very proud to join HRH The Countess of Wessex at Paris Garden and be part of the celebration to name Central School of Ballet’s new home. Paris Garden will provide students and staff an all-purpose space with first-class facilities to support its thriving dance community.”

The Director of Central School of Ballet, Heidi Hall commented: “Our much-anticipated move will allow Central to provide exceptional facilities to match our world-class training for the benefit of our degree level students, for young people with an early passion for dance and the wider community to enjoy for exercise or recreation. Bringing everyone together in one place has been a long-held aim and we are forever grateful to The Countess for her support and enthusiasm as our Royal Patron.

“We also appreciate Southwark Council and Councillor Peter John for their support of Central’s work and are thankful for all our loyal supporters who have believed in our passion and determination to deliver this project.”

The Leader of Southwark Council, Councillor Peter John added: “We are pleased to welcome the Central School of Ballet to Southwark as part of our growing reputation as a cultural destination. It is one of our key commitments that local people are able to benefit from the regeneration happening across the borough as well as offering access to world class entertainment. Central has run a pilot satellite ballet school in the borough since 2012 in anticipation of their move.”
