Dewi Sant Health Park to be redeveloped in Pontypridd

Funding has been provided by the Welsh Government to assist with the transformation of the Dewi Sant Health Park in Pontypridd into a fully integrated health and social care provider following the commencement of an initial stage in the park’s development back in 2016.

Following the provision of £1.5M by the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board in November 2016, the Welsh Government has now added an extra £8M towards the second phase of redevelopment of the health park, which is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2021.

The Welsh Health Minister, Vaughan Gething stated: “I am delighted to be able to award this money to deliver a modern, integrated health and social care park in Pontypridd. In line with our vision, set-out in ‘A Healthier Wales’, this investment will bring together primary and secondary care services under one roof, and provide care for people closer to home.

“The Welsh Government is committed to investing in our hospitals and health centres. In our draft budget for 2020-21, published last week, we announced a further £36M in capital investment for health and social services.”

According to the Welsh Government, the new health park will feature vital health and social care services such as a GP surgery, dentistry, mental health and substance misuse services, and a newly refurbished diagnostic radiology suite.

The Director of Primary Community and Mental Health Services at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Alan Lawrie added: “We are so pleased to be able to continue the fantastic work at Dewi Sant. The first phase of the development has enabled us to provide more care for patients, closer to their homes and work with local authority and third sector partners to ensure we provide people with the best possible standard of care and support.

“This ongoing work will ensure that there are better links between all our services so that patients are seen quickly by the appropriate specialists and team and treatment can be delivered in the best place for the patient and at the right time.”
