Green light for 142 sustainable homes at £1.3Bn Granton Waterfront

City of Edinburgh Council’s £1.3Bn Granton Waterfront regeneration is a step closer this week, following planning approval of 142 affordable and highly sustainable homes.
The approved proposals form part of the landmark Granton Waterfront regeneration scheme which reminagines Edinburgh’s largest brownfield site as an accessible and energy efficient coastal community.
This latest milestone follows the start of construction at the £72M, 444-home ‘Western Villages’ residential development – also part of the local authority’s wider regeneration of Granton Waterfront. In total, 3,500 mixed-tenure homes and associated infrastructure are expected to be delivered over the next decade.
Hart Builders will begin work on-site at Silverlea in 2023 to deliver all 142 homes, which include wheelchair-accessible ground-floor dwellings in a mix of social rent (91) and mid-market rent (51) – each benefitting from coastal views and access to parkland.
“I’m delighted with today’s decision,” said Councillor Jane Meagher, Edinburgh’s Housing, Homelessness and Fair Work Convener. “We’ve reached another major milestone on our Granton Waterfront project to deliver much needed sustainable affordable housing in the area.“
Councillor Meagher continued: “Our proposals for the site have been carefully designed to improve the quality of the surrounding green space and to make it easier for people to walk or cycle around the area.“
