Winvic aims for digital future through new CIC

The contractor company Winvic Construction Ltd has recently launched its Centre for Innovative Construction (CIC) following popular demand from clients as well as the companies strong focus towards a digital future.

The CIC itself will feature facilities such as a virtual reality BIM CAVE, an interactive meeting room, smart screens, and training space all contained with a 2,000sq ft development which is focussed primarily upon design models and education across both the business and the supply chain.

The facilities, most notably the virtual reality BIM CAVE, can be used for business meetings so that Winvic staff and clients can take a virtual tour of the site designs and make adjustments to the designs as they go around.

Furthermore, the CIC can help with shaping accurate budgets, planning complex programmes through 4D modelling, and can provide situational site training, meaning that any problems which may occur on site are solved before they are given the chance to happen, thus reducing project delivery times and the ultimate cost of construction.

The Technical Director at Winvic, Tim Reeve stated: “While we have offered industry standard BIM Level 2 to clients for many years, in the last two to three we have experienced a significant uptake in the request for BIM on the projects we are involved in.

“As our main focus is meeting clients’ needs – from a practical delivery point of view and also commercially – it was a natural progression for Winvic to become an early adopter of the technology found in our new facility.

“There was also a clear opportunity to augment our staff and supply chain training, from general health and safety to specifics on projects; in being even more ambitious in our attention to developing future construction skills, Winvic’s Centre for Innovative Construction is a multi-purpose tool that will transform many people’s expertise, our business and clients’ experience of developing a project.”
