Sustainable floating tiny house made from cardboard

This is Wikkleboat, a group of five, sustainable tiny homes in the centre of Rotterdam!

Both a unique stay and comfortable experience, we loved staying here knowing that sustainability is at the heart of everything. Suitable for both couples and families, Wikkelboat and Wikkelhouse are up to three times more sustainable than a normal house, with cool features and amenities including:

  • Walls made from 24 layers of compressed corrugated cardboard, making them durable, insulating, and lightweight
  • All power is supplied by solar panels on the roofs and Dutch wind power
  • All Wikkelboats are equipped with water-saving shower-heads, toilets, and faucets
  • Waste is hand-separated to ensure that as much as can be recycled is + all boats have compost bins

Use locally sourced products, from their coffees and teas provided to the loo roll and paper towels in the kitchen! These modular homes are not only sleek, but are mullti-functional too! 🛏️ With beds that are stored in the walls, expandable dining tables to be multi-purposed as conference tables, and windows that can serve as television screens when used with projectors! 😯 The possibilities are endless with Wikkelboats, and we hope more of these sustainable building practices become part of stays around the world!
