Approval nears for Baltic Triangle apartments

A scheme to build two apartment blocks accommodating almost 200 residents with space for commercial workshops, galleries, a courtyard, a café and shops in the Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool has been recommended for approval by planning officers.Liverpool City Council’s planning committee will discuss PHD1 Construction’s full planning application to develop two parcels of land measuring 0.8 acres in total between Norfolk Street and Brick Street on Tuesday (20 October 2015). These buildings, known as Norfolk Street phase two and phase three, will be situated either side of an already approved scheme by the same company called Norfolk Street phase one.Phase two, covering the former Liver Grease boundary at the eastern end of the site near St James Street, involves creating 125 studio flats and one-bed apartments with commercial workshops, meeting spaces and galleries on the ground floor aimed at the creative industries along with a central courtyard. And phase three, affecting the western end of the site near Jamaica Street, comprises 72 studios, an adjoining café, and shops and galleries on the ground and mezzanine floors.PHD1 Construction has advised the local authority that its intention is to market both phases to Chinese investors as managed living accommodation let by a management company.
