New free school or academy plans for Chelmsford given the go ahead

Proposals to create a new free school or academy in Chelmsford were given the green light.More than 3,000 homes are being built on the Beaulieu Park development in north Chelmsford and the demand for school places in the area is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. With that in mind, Essex County Council’s Cabinet today agreed to the construction of a new 420-place primary free school or academy on the site, providing 60 primary places per year group.As part of the proposals, a 56-place early years centre will be built adjacent to the school.Cabinet also approved plans to invite proposals to run the school.The £9million project, primarily funded by developer contributions, is expected to be completed by September 2018.
