Plans for new council office in Wimborne on hold
Plans for a new civic office in Wimborne have been put on hold – just two months after a public consultation. The proposals would have seen East Dorset District Council officials relocate to the Allendale Centre as part of a cost-cutting exercise. But now most of the staff employed by both Christchurch and East Dorset councils will be moving to the Civic Offices in Christchurch. The proposals would have been the popular venue used as office, as well as continuing to provide rooms for community use.Residents would have been able to visit the centre for a range of council services, including housing, benefits, council tax, public health and waste and recycling advice. The upper floor would have provided accommodation for the district council, Dorset County Council and Dorset Police. The town’s former police station is now closed to members of the public.Proposals that have been drawn up for a super council may also impact East Dorset’s future plans, Cllr Monks said.
