Plans to build hundreds of new homes on a 75-acre countryside site south of Whitstable in Kent look set to be granted conditional approval despite attracting a number of objections.Devine Homes is seeking outline planning permission for the construction of up to 400 homes on land near Duncan Down, north of Thanet Way. Of the 400 homes, 120 are set to be affordable housing.Housing will be provided through a mixture of flats and houses and a combination of market housing and affordable housing. The developer is also proposing to retain about 37 acres of land as open space for the community.A report set to be discussed by Canterbury City Council planners tomorrow (2 February) has recommended the scheme for approval subject to a Section 106 legal agreement and “appropriate safeguarding conditions”.
