Tesco Express set to open at Coventry city centre retail park
A Tesco Express could open at the Central Six retail park after a planning application was submitted to Coventry City Council. The store is earmarked for the empty unit formerly occupied by JJB Sports and Mountain Warehouse, next to the building which houses American Golf.Standard Life Investments UK Retail Park Trust have applied to divide unit 12 on the retail park and to change existing planning permission to allow the sale of food and convenience goods.Although Tesco Express are not mentioned in the planning application, the Telegraph understands they are they intended end user at this stage. The city council’s planning committee will meet to discuss the application on Thursday and is likely to grant permission for the store after it was recommended for approval in a report by planning officers.Restrictions will be imposed on the shop, including limiting deliveries to between the hours of 7am and 7pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 7pm on Sundays. There will also be limits on the level of noise permitted at the site, with readings taken from nearby homes. An upper limit of 50 decibels between 7am and 11pm will be imposed, and 40 decibels at all other times. The planning officers’ report also takes into account the council’s strategy for directing these types of developments to city centre premises where possible.
