Winslow’s Sir Thomas Fremantle School is expanding. The planning permission has now been granted for their new school site adjacent to the Buckingham road in Winslow. Building work will start soon and is due for completion in spring 2017.The school, which was graded ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features by Ofsted in May 2015, currently has around 300 students in years 7 to 10 and will eventually be home to 600 local students aged 11 to 19. The significantly over-subscribed school is keen to establish itself as a hub for community activities, offering a range much needed facilities within the growing town. The building will provide excellent facilities for both the students and the local community and has been designed specifically to support excellent community accessibility.Facilities will include a performance hall, separate 4-court sports hall, a dance and aerobics studio, a fitness suite and all-weather pitches. It will also be home to the school’s very successful Combined Cadet Force which will enjoy dedicated lecture spaces and kit storage. The building will incorporate a range of specialist teaching spaces, including one for the schools pioneering 3D Design and Manufacture courses. The school team expressed their gratitude to their colleagues at the Education Funding Agency and to contractors Kier for all of their hard work in helping get the project to this stage.
