CLR housing development in Crewkerne approved by councillors
Plans to build more than a hundred homes and a nursing home for the Crewkerne Link Road (CLR) project have been passed.South Somerset District Council approved outline planning permission for the application submitted by Taylor Wimpey, which is off Station Road and includes 110 new homes, a 60-bed nursing home and 3.74 hectares of employment land.It brings an end to an almost three-decade long saga for the land, which is also called the Crewkerne Key Site, and Cllr Mike Best, a district and town councillor for Crewkerne, said there were mixed feelings in the town over the proposals. The final plans submitted by the developers were vastly reduced compared to the original, with only 50 of the 110 homes classed as affordable homes.Land made available for employment land was also reduced to the 3.74 hectares, which is much less than the originally planned 10 hectares. A site for a potential school has also been identified. As part of the plans, Taylor Wimpey will also contribute £7.6 million to help build local infrastructure, such as new roads and a new school. It is not yet known when building on the site will begin, as plans with much greater detail will be submitted to the Area West Committee of SSDC at a later date, when the plans can also be fine-tuned by developers and councillors.
