The Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education (The Group) is a leading College within the Humber region and focused on ensuring that the delivery of training and education meets the needs and aspirations of the learners as well as demands of the employers. The Group is a member of the Humber Energy Campus and is committed to ensuring that the Humber region, and the Energy Estuary within, is seen as an international centre of excellence for offshore wind and the supporting energy sector. The Group believes that this opportunity for the Humber region is one that cannot be missed and it is therefore essential that employers choosing to operate here can do so cost efficiently, with a reliance on local labour and supported by a skills, training and employment plan that will enable not just local business stability but also growth.
The Group have successfully secured Local Growth Deal funding from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) which, when match funded by the Group’s own investment, will enable the creation of a bespoke training centre in the Humber region that will support the education and training demands of the region’s growth sectors. The facility, located in Immingham in North East Lincolnshire, will be called Modal Training.
Modal Training will involve of the delivery of programmes of study for the current and future workforce of the ports, logistics and energy sectors. It will harness the Group’s existing expertise of working in the engineering and renewable energy sector to deliver a range of education and bespoke training packages by improving existing facilities for learners, improved flexibility of learning resources in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), Logistics, Employability Skills, Apprenticeships and Foundation Degrees.
This project involves the creation of a new South Humber Logistics Hub, building on the Group’s prior investment as part of the National Skills Academy for in Environmental Technologies, the Centre of Vocational Excellence of Automotive Industries and the Engineering and Renewable Technologies Centre.
The Group requires the following simulator models;
— 1 x truck cabin (no trailer) of a Scania or Volvo size lorry;
— 1 x car of a small to medium size car;
— Instructor station.
The above should come with the software, screens etc. to ensure full operations to undertake fully immersive training. The Group is not looking for any other type of simulator set up other than that which can be accommodated inside an actual vehicle. It is preferred that the vehicle is located inside its own room so that the student experience can be free from any other diversions and fully immersive.
It is possible that the Group will accept a software supply and installation cost if a supplier is unable to source the actual vehicle bodies. However the supplier will be required to provide evidence and details of installation where they have supplied their software and installed themselves into physical vehicles.
