Newcastle’s Grainger plans new ‘urban village’ creating more than 200 jobs
Newcastle’s Grainger Plc is forging ahead on its mission to become the UK leader in providing private rented homes with plans to build a new ‘urban village’, creating more than 200 new jobs. The multi-million pound plan sees the firm, the UK’s largest listed residential landlord, apply for permission for a build-to-rent development on land close to Newbury railway station – a Berkshire market directly linked to London by rail. The scheme for the urban village includes 232 rental homes across a mix of apartments, duplexes and houses, with 10,200 sqft of commercial space. The proposals will also provide further improvements for Newbury through station car parking with additional capacity, replacement car parking for the council offices, a new station plaza, new pedestrian routes through the site, replacement housing contribution and a new bus station.Grainger said the scheme could create more than 220 new full time jobs in the next four years and, once finished, provide more than £4m of additional expenditure in local shops and services each year.
