Top sixth form college site could be turned into block of flats
The site of a sixth form college in Cardiff could be turned into a block of 48 affordable housing apartments.An application for planning permission has been made to develop the Cardiff Sixth Form College site on Newport Road into one and two bedroom accommodation.If agreed, Cadwyn Housing Association would own and manage the units, delivering social rented apartments for single people, couples and small families.The building, which is on an L shape, would be four and a half storeys high facing Newport Road and three and a half storeys onto Wordsworth Avenue – where the access to the building would be.The application, made by Willis Construction, proposes 48 apartments with 13 on-site parking spaces and 19 cycle parking places.There is a front garden to both wings of the building as well as an area of communal open space to the rear.Cardiff Sixth Form College, which was founded in 2004, has since relocated twice, including to its current address at Trinity Court on Newport Road.
