Plans submitted for 120-bed student scheme
Plans have been submitted for a new development which could provide accommodation for more than 120 students at the University of Falmouth. It is hoped that as well as providing accommodation for the university, the scheme will also free up housing that has previously been occupied by students.Cherry Homes (South West), through APG Architecture, has submitted an application to Cornwall Council covering a site at Packsaddle Hill, close to the university’s campus in Penryn.Three blocks of student accommodation will be built featuring a total of 125 beds in a mix of studios and cluster flats.Landscaping work will also be undertaken to provide a buffer zone between the new accommodation and the existing flats.Falmouth University is said to be the second largest employer in Cornwall and has about 6,000 students.According to the planning documents there is currently “a shortage of purpose built student accommodation that results in competition for rented accommodation in all sections of the community”.
