JV wins flood defence work
A joint venture between BAM Nuttall and Mott MacDonald (BBMJV) has won two contracts to construct flood defences and carry out restoration work which will “contribute to the government’s target for protecting 300,000 homes”.An Exeter scheme will involve the construction of flood defences on both banks of the River Exe from Cowley Bridge to Countess Weir, designed to protect 2,270 homes, 1,000 commercial properties, 24 listed buildings, four schools and seven health centres. In addition, following the floods and storms which took place last year, BMMJV has also secured a deal to work in the York & North East and Lower Aire and Upper Aire catchments. This will include inspecting and surveying assets, developing designs and carrying out construction work to return assets to their pre-storm condition. The contract wins were awarded through the government’s Water and Environment Management (WEM) Framework and are part of the Environment Agency’s Flood Alleviation Scheme and North Asset Recovery Programme.BBMJV is currently working on projects in Leeds and Great Yarmouth. It has completed phase two of the Borth Coastal Defence Scheme for Ceredigion County Council and has also been involved with reopening Network Rail’s main line at Dawlish.
