Retail park plans deferred
A decision on plans for a 106,000 sq ft retail park in Cross Hands has been deferred following the submission of an application for another development on a nearby site.Carmarthenshire County Council was due to discuss an application by the Conygar Investment Company for a retail park on a site at Cross Hands West which had previously been earmarked for a Sainsbury’s supermarket.A report prepared for the planning committee meeting on 7 June 2016 had recommended approval for the scheme.Head of planning Llinos Quelch told the committee that since the report on the application had been prepared, an application had come in for further development of the Co-op store in Cross Hands. The council received a letter from consultants on behalf of the Co-op saying that the retail park plan should not be considered without all the information being presented to the committee and that the new Cross Hands application should be a material planning consideration. The Co-op application proposes a new foodstore alongside eight new commercial units, with a total size of about 65,000 sq ft, on the site of an existing retail unit and petrol station.
