Greggs among businesses planning to open at former Be Modern site
Greggs is set to open another outlet in South Tyneside as part of a revamp to an industrial landmark.Be Modern, the fireplace, bathroom and bedroom furniture manufacturer, moved out of its iconic base in Western Approach, South Shields in 2014.Travis Perkins, an umbrella company for a number of building industry brands, then bought up the site and since last year has slowly been stripping back the building to its steel girdersHowever, South Tyneside Council has now gave the go-ahead for the company to create seven new units which will be used for number of commercial operations.These includes a builders’ merchant unit which will display, sell and store supplies and a tile merchants.As part of the planning application a letter of support from Greggs was submitted which stated the bakery company would be keen to open its fifth South Shields store at the site.
