A proposal to build 340 new homes on a site in Weymouth is set to take a step forward with councillors recommended to approve the scheme at a meeting later this week.CG Fry & Son has submitted an application covering a 40.2-acre site, predominantly used as farmland, close to the Broadwey area of Weymouth.A total of 340 homes would be built while 35 per cent of the properties would be set aside for affordable housing. A large area of public parkland would also be included in the centre of the site. The new development would link to Nottington Lane at two separate points, with a further access proposed off Dorchester Road.A contribution of £950 per property will be made towards improvements to the Redlands Sports Hub and £452 per property to Weymouth Swimming Pool works. Funding will also go towards a series of projects at nearby schools. The plans will be considered at a meeting of Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s planning committee on 6 July 2016.Councillors are recommended to approve the scheme subject to conditions including a Section 106 order that would secure the affordable housing and financial contributions.
