Plans to redevelop Sussex building
Plans to demolish a Brighton tower block once dubbed the ‘ugliest building in Sussex’ to make way for a new apartment scheme have been submitted to the city’s council.Mixed-use developer First Base and housing association Hyde Group have lodged a planning application to redevelop the Anston House site.The applicants are hoping to replace the property, described as Brighton’s ugliest building, with a new apartment block rising up to 15 storeys high. It will incorporate 229 residential units as well as flexible commercial/café space at ground floor level.Car and cycle parking, new vehicular accesses and landscaping are also featured in the proposals.The application for the scheme was submitted to Brighton & Hove City council following “extensive consultation” with local residents, businesses, community representatives and planning officers.First Base said it has received “good levels of support” for the proposals to redevelop the site.
