Bath Sea Cadets plans set for approval
The proposed redevelopment of two Victorian properties in Bath, incorporating a new home for the City of Bath Sea Cadets and student flats, is set to be given the go ahead by councillors. An application was submitted earlier this year covering the redevelopment of The Sea Cadets’ existing headquarters at 30 St John’s Road in central Bath. The site currently comprises two Victorian buildings, which were originally built as dwellings. Since the organisation took over in 1953 a number of additions have been made.Under the plans, the buildings, which are said to be dilapidated and in need of extensive repair, would be demolished to makes way for a new property of between two and three storeys. The ground floor of the facility will provide bespoke accommodation for the Sea Cadets’ administrative, tuition and training needs, including male and female showers and wardroom facilities. The upper floors will feature 18 new studio apartments for the postgraduate student rental market. These apartments will fund the wider redevelopment. The development is expected to support the creation of 60 jobs during the construction phase.Bath and North East Somerset Council’s development management committee will vote on the scheme on 21 September 2016 and a report prepared ahead of the meeting has recommended approval.
