Proposals for a huge residential-led riverside scheme between the New Bailey and Middlewood Locks areas of Salford, which include 843 homes and a 33-storey tower, have been given the go-ahead.English Cities Fund’s outline planning application for the comprehensive phased regeneration of an area bounded by New Bailey to the north east, Middlewood Locks to the west, and the River Irwell and St John’s scheme to the south east has been approved by Salford City Council’s planning committee. It is envisaging a residential-led, mixed-use development designed by AHR Architects comprising a maximum of 843 homes alongside ground-floor commercial units with potential for offices, retail, food and drink, entertainment and leisure uses.Five new residential buildings ranging from 11 to 33 storeys high and a multi-storey car park of up to ten levels with capacity for 637 vehicles are proposed. The application is seeking to change the plans for zones A and C within the wider Salford Central Masterplan regeneration scheme, which originally secured planning consent in 2010.English Cities Fund is a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and the Homes and Communities Agency.
