New future beckons for listed Leeds site
A prominent grade II-listed building in central Leeds looks set to be extended and redeveloped into an apartment complex aimed at professionals after planning permission was granted.Constructed in 1904 as a public dispensary, Centenary House on North Street is owned by Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People but is no longer required after services provided to the council by the charity were transferred to another provider.Acting on behalf of the applicant Avenue A Ltd, Watts Planning has secured approval for a conversion, designed by Box Architects, which involves the construction of a six-storey rear extension and a two-floor addition to the main building, clad in standing seam zinc to complement the adjacent Crispin Lofts development, alongside work to create a commercial unit at ground level. This work is needed to allow the construction of 79 flats, including 37 studios, 33 one-bedroom flats and nine two-bedroom properties.
