Approval looms for Wolverhampton student scheme
Plans for a major new student development that will bring more than 800 rooms to Wolverhampton are set to get the nod.Insider revealed in August that proposals for the new development had been submitted to the City of Wolverhampton Council by JEDS Investment. The land was previously home to a car showroom and is located on the corner of Stafford Street and Bone Mill Lane. It is within walking distance of the city’s Molineux Stadium, as well as the University of Wolverhampton’s City Campus. The E shaped building will rise to nine storeys and will comprise 812 rooms, including single rooms, ‘twodios’ and cluster rooms. The development will also have a study room, lounge, gym and outdoor leisure areas.Documents filed ahead of a planning committee meeting later this week (8 November 2016) revealed the scheme has been recommended for approval. The decision is subject to the finalisation of a section 106 agreement, which will include a £320,000 payment from JEDS for improvements to Fowlers Park and targeted recruitment and training for the development.Wolverhampton planning officers said the project will “make a significant provision to the student accommodation in the city”.
