Approval for 300-home Cardiff scheme
A development of 300 homes on the outskirts of Cardiff is set to go ahead after councillors granted planning consent for the scheme at a meeting.Housebuilder Barratt (BDW South Wales) submitted an outline application to Cardiff City Council in February for a 24-acre agricultural site, located close to Radyr in the north-west of Cardiff.Goitre Fach Farm forms part of the wider 855-acre Strategic Site C (North West Cardiff) identified in the emerging Cardiff Local Development Plan (LDP) for mixed uses, including residential, employment and associated community space.Under the developer’s proposals, a number of disused and dilapidated stone buildings associated with the former farm would be demolished to make way for up to 300 homes with a mix of detached and semi-detached properties. The proposal also includes provision for public open space, a play area, landscaping and new access.Cardiff City Council approved the plans at a meeting on 14 December 2016, in line with the recommendation of a report from planning officers.Consent is subject the signing of a section 106 agreement that will secure a 30 per cent affordable housing provision at the development as well as financial contributions towards schools, transport and green infrastructure.Goitre Fach Farm is adjacent to a site subject to an outline application for up to 5,970 houses, new schools and commercial and community facilities. The council has yet to decide on this application.A new student centre for Cardiff University including 91,500 sq ft of space including study spaces, meeting and consultation rooms, a 550-seat auditorium, catering and retail outlets was also granted consent at the meeting. The building has been described as “iconic” and would be used for open days, grant, rent, and social services, and counselling. It would also provide a social meeting point and venue for presentations and displays, graduation and other ceremonies.
