Planning consent awarded for large scale designer outlet at Scotch Corner
On 1 December 2016, Sajid Javed, the Secretary of State for the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) approved a planning application by Scotch Corner Richmond LLP for a new designer retail outlet on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire. A planning application had gained a resolution to grant consent from Richmondshire Council in January 2015 but was the subject of a ministerial call-in.Located at Scotch Corner at the junction of the A1M and A66, it is estimated that 33.5m vehicles will pass by the site each year. With the announcement in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement that the A66 from Scotch Corner to Penrith will now be fully dualled, access will be enhanced even further across the north of England. Providing some 250,000sq ft, the new village is planned to have 90 retail units and 10 restaurants in what Scotch Corner Richmond LLP, the owners of the site, anticipate to be a significant destination location to complement the many leisure and tourist attractions in the region.Construction is scheduled to commence in 2017 and Colliers International will soon be commencing marketing from which they expect strong demand from top international brands and retailers. The £50m project will generate an estimated 700 new jobs, providing a major boost to the local economy.
