Green light for huge Cambourne scheme
Outline plans to build a major mixed-use scheme near Cambourne comprising 2,350 homes, retail space, schools and leisure facilities have been approved. The development is the braindchild of MCA Developments and is earmarked for land within Caxton.Having been recommended to approve the project, South Cambridgeshire District Council did just that. The scheme will primarily comprise 2,350 residential units, of which up to 705 will be affordable. The suggested schedule for building the properties is to provide 200 homes during the five years from 2016/17 to 2020/21, with a further 150 each year thereafter. Also proposed is a secondary school and two primary schools, as well as a 7,700 sq ft community space.A further 16,145 sq ft of retail space is lined up, as is 329,000 sq ft of flexible mixed-use employment units. A sports pavilion is also included in the scheme. As part of the proposal, a four-arm roundabout could also be built on the A1198/Caxton Bypass.A start date for the scheme has yet to be given.
