Gravesend hospital site set for housing
Planning permission has been granted to to redevelop a section of the former Gravesend and North Kent Hospital site in Gravesend into a residential-led mixed-use development.NHS Property Services has secured the green light from Gravesham Borough Council to transform the vacant and derelict site, known as M-Block.The plans have the potential to deliver up to 80 residential units alongside additional amenities that could include crèche, day centre and leisure uses.Gravesend and North Kent Hospital closed in 2004 following the opening of the Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford. Limited services continued from M-Block until its closure in 2006.Gravesham Community Hospital opened on part of the site in 2006, the community hospital is unaffected by the application and will continue to operate from its current location.NHS Property Services inherited the M-Block site as part of the health reforms of 2013.
