Plans lodged to convert snooker hall to nightclub
Plans to convert a Carmarthenshire snooker club into a nightclub have been resubmitted, following refusal in 2013, with measures suggested to reduce the impact of the scheme.Ammanford has not had a nightclub since 1976 when the Eriskay was destroyed in a fire.Proposals to convert the Snooker World hall on Wind Street in Ammanford were turned down by Carmarthenshire County Council in 2013, despite support from Ammanford town councillors. An appeal to the Welsh Government’s planning inspectorate was also rejected. It was refused consent due to the “unacceptable levels” of noise and disturbance to nearby residents.New plans for the scheme have now been submitted to the council. Proposals cover the change of use of the first floor to a nightclub. The snooker club would be moved to part of the ground floor, retail area. The applicant has said the nightclub will also incorporate health and fitness studio classes including, bodypump, Zumba, kettlebells, yoga together with health management and well-being programmes and activities for youths, the elderly and various group.Under-16 blue light discos will also be held on a non-profit basis with proceeds going towards local causes.Measures have been proposed to mitigate the effect of the development on the area, with the applicant planning to work with Carmarthen County Council officials and noise abatement specialists to reduce noise pollution. The music volume would also be lowered half an hour before closing to ensure and gradual exit.It added that the scheme would bring “economic, environmental and social benefits” to the area.
