Plans for Cambridge residential scheme set for go-ahead

A reserved matters application for a residential scheme by Weston Homes in Cambridge has been recommended for approval by planning officers.The site is located immediately to the north-east of Coldhams Lane and to the north and west of Hatherdene Close. It was formerly arable field and measures 3.1 acres.The plans involve the creation of 57-homes comprising ten one-bedroom apartments and 19 two-bedroom apartments with 20 three-bedroom and eight four-bedroom homes. In addition, open space and car parking have been included in the proposal.To the north-east and north-west of the site is Cambridge Airport and the associated runways and equipment. The plans state the scheme will provide an opportunity to improve the gateway into Cambridge and form a “strong basis” for the wider Cambridge East major development to build upon.Cambridge City Council’s planning officers have recommended the plans for approval ahead of a planning meeting on 15 February 2017, subject to conditions. It said the development will make an “important contribution” towards the supply of housing.Outline planning permission was granted on the 2 April 2015 for up to 57 dwellings including 40 per cent affordable housing open space, landscaping and new vehicular access. Vehicular access into the site was the only detail approved at the outline stage with all other matters reserved.Planning officers also said the proposal has been amended to address urban design landscape and environmental health and are now considered acceptable. Changes included the removal of two flats built over garages in the initial design.
