Type of document: Contract Notice
Country: United Kingdom
1. Title: ROBOT INSPECTION CELL
2. Awarding Authority: TWI Ltd. Granta Park, Great Abington, Cambridge, CB21 6AL. Tel: 01223899000. Email: purchasing@twi.co.uk. Web: Electronic access to information: Electronic submission of tenders and requests to participate: (Purchasing Department).
3. Contract type: Supply contract
Single stage – Any candidate may submit a tender.
4. Description: The Awarding Authority seeks to develop new inspection procedures and analysis techniques aimed at reducing the time and cost burden of quality assurance of components with challenging geometry’s.
To help attain the reduction in inspection time, automated, robotic large area scanning and manipulation to cover complex geometry’s is to be implemented as part of the solution. The tendered solution should comprise an inspection cell incorporating two robot manipulators positioned opposite each other and mounted on independent track systems. In addition provision should be made for a removable turntable system capable of encoded rotation about the vertical axis of a 3.5m diameter x 2m high cylindrical component weighing 800kg. Components will be loaded onto the turntable by overhead crane.
The Awarding Authority will be holding a site visit at The Awarding Authority in relation to this tender on Tuesday the 7th March 2017 at 10am which is expected to last approximately 2 hours. If you would like to attend please send full attendee names and a copy of photographic ID such as a passport or driving license no later than 3pm on Monday the 6th March 2017 through the in-tend correspondence facility. You will also be required to bring photographic ID on the day of the site visit.
The Awarding Authority is one of the world’s foremost independent research and technology organizations, with expertise in solving problems in all aspects of manufacturing, fabrication and whole-life integrity management technologies.
Established in Cambridge, UK in 1946 and with facilities across the globe, the company has a first class reputation for service through its teams of internationally respected consultants, scientists, engineers and support staff, whose knowledge and expertise is available to its Industrial Members as and when they require.
This specification has been produced as part of an initiative known as AEMRI (Advanced Engineering Materials Research Institute), which is funded by the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) using European Regional Development Funds (ERDF). AEMRI seeks to create a unique facility housing a critical mass of equipment, expertise and resources. AEMRI provides an environment to test and prove the limits of performance of advanced materials. Through the use of advanced modelling and simulation methods, full, large-scale mechanical test structures will be designed and built upon finite element analysis (FEA) calculations. Advanced, automated non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques will be developed with the aim of saving the industry time and production costs as well as minimizing the risk of catastrophic structural failures.
AEMRI will deliver the objectives of the project through the following four technical strands:-
Modelling and Simulation of High Performance Materials and Structures.
Advanced Robotic Inspection of Complex Geometry Structures.
Inspection Systems for Very Large Structures for the Green Energy Sector.
Nuclear Fabrication Research Center.
