Starbucks could be coming to Burton as part of major development along with Aldi and another gym
A Starbucks coffee shop could finally be coming to Burton after major plans for a retail park have been submitted. The third and final phase of the Albion Gateway development has revealed that the popular coffee shop chain could be coming to the town, along with plans to bring an Aldi supermarket on board, and another as-yet unnamed gym.Permission has already been granted for the first and second phase of the development, adjacent to the Pirelli factory, off Derby Road, Stretton, which includes 300 homes, industrial units, a hotel and pub. However, despite extensive marketing, the developer, St Modwen Developments, has been unable to find operators for the hotel and pub. Instead, it is hoped Aldi will occupy the site earmarked for a hotel, and plans for a Starbucks drive-thru have been submitted instead of a pub.Starbucks will be the second coffee shop on the development, after Costa Coffee opened its drive-thru off Derby Road last year. The latest application has been submitted to East Staffordshire Borough Council and includes the erection of four detached buildings to form a supermarket, drive-thru coffee shop/restaurant, retail and leisure unit as a gymnasium, builders merchants, MKM, with outside storage, and five employment units including associated car parking and landscaping. If given the green light, it will also include more than 140 car parking spaces.Aldi will occupy a space of 1856.78m², the drive-thru will require space of 155.72m² while the gym, which is intended to be on the first floor, will need 595sq.m.
