Plans to build more than 90 flats on a site in Newport city centre are set to get the green light when they return to the planning committee next week, following changes made to address the previous refusal.Heyworth Homes (Newport) submitted an updated application for the site off Liberty Grove earlier this year. The developer is proposing a total of 92 one- and two-bedroom flats in five four-storey blocks. Nine affordable units are included as part of the scheme. An earlier version of the plans was refused consent by the Newport City Council’s planning committee in August 2016 due to a lack of adequate parking provision.Nine additional parking spaces have now been added, giving a total of 108, with the position of one of the blocks changed to provide room. The site forms part of a wider area of land that was granted planning permission for residential development in 2005.The application will be discussed by the council’s planning committee at a meeting on 5 April 2016 and is recommended for approval, subject to a Section 106 agreement.A report prepared for the meeting said: “The development site is allocated within the council’s LDP (local development plan) for housing and the proposals represent a positive contribution towards the council’s housing requirements.
