Kier preferred bidder for £36m school
Kier has been named as the preferred bidder to design and build a £36m comprehensive school in Torfaen.The new school will provide 130,000 sq ft of education space. Work will begin in early 2018 with completion for the new academic year in September 2019.The Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School project will be completed for Torfaen County Borough Council and has been procured as part of the SEWSCAP2 (South and Mid Wales collaborative construction) framework and Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme.Jason Taylor, operations director, Kier Construction Western & Wales, said: “We’re pleased to be preferred bidder on Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School, which will build on our strong track record of education projects across Wales.”We’re looking forward to partnering with Torfaen County Borough Council to create effective and efficient learning environments that offer pupils the best education experience and getting the local community involved in the project as it progresses.”Stride Treglown is the architect and lead designer, with the roles of civil and structural engineer and building services designer being undertaken by Cambria Consulting and McCann and Partners respectively.
