Ice rink, skiing and skydiving plans set for approval
A new development at Cribbs Causeway near Bristol which could provide an ice rink, ski facilities and indoor sky diving is set to be given the green light a meeting (5 April 2017).Baylis Estates submitted a hybrid application with South Gloucestershire Council in 2015 for a site to south of Merlin Road at the mall.About 150,000 sq ft of new space is proposed, with full-planning permission sought for a new ice rink, indoor ski venue and indoor skydiving. Together, these facilities could welcome up to 2,500 visitors per day.Outline consent is also sought for a new retail store, hotel, restaurant and car showroom.A planning statement submitted with the application has said the scheme represents a £28m investment and could create hundreds of jobs.The application is one of a number of development currently planned for Cribbs Causeway. An extension of the mall, including retail and leisure units as well as a hotel and residential apartments, was approved at the end of 2016 but has since been called in by Sajid Javid, the secretary of state for communities of local government, with a decision expected shortly.Asda has also been granted approval to redevelop a site adjacent to its existing store at Cribbs Causeway, including more than 150,000 sq ft of new commercial space.The development will be discussed by the council’s development control (west) committee on 5 April 2017.
