4. Description: The Awarding Authority has a requirement for a wind tunnel for testing living birds. With this system, the bird sets its own wings to fly in the tunnel. This approach was devised in the 1960s, when its potential was only partly developed. The size and speed of the tunnel are designed to provide natural flying conditions for any bird that might be used. Force measurements are made by looking at the bird’s balance, rather than from in-tunnel instruments.
The wind tunnel is funded through the European Research Council (ERC) project at the awarding authority.

As part of the tender process, a site visit to the University’s Singleton Park campus has been arranged for suppliers, on the afternoon of Friday 5th May 2017. This visit will provide an opportunity for companies to gain some insight into the environment of the provision as well as to ask questions relating to the tender process and specification
Those companies wishing to attend should confirm their interest by 12 noon on Wednesday 3rd May 2017 via the BravoSolution Message Board facility, providing the staff names of those attending (suppliers are respectfully asked to limit attendees to two company representatives only). Attendees should set aside approximately 1.5 hours in their diaries and should report to the main foyer of Fulton House (Building 17 on document 11 Singleton Campus site plan) by 14.00hrs. Please do not just turn up without confirming your attendance first as this may compromise the management of the visit.
Suppliers should note that although companies are encouraged to support this visit, attendance is not compulsory and will not affect the evaluation of a subsequent tender submission
