4. Description: The awarding authority is Wales’ largest premier Potato and Vegetable packing firm. Based in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire and established in 1995 the business is wholly owned by the farmers and growers who supply them. The company has grown year on year over the last five years.
The awarding authority’s growth has been built on proactive engagement with the major retailers and their ability to secure contracts with Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons, Waitrose and M&S. In order to maintain supply contracts with these leading retailers, Puffin Produce has been at the forefront of continuous development that includes expansion of its facilities and range to motivate increased sales and product marketability.
Puffin Produce plan investment in further increasing scale, efficiency and infrastructure of the current potato operation.
This invitation to tender is in request of quotes for the supply of 4700 to 6700 x 1.1 tonne wooden potato boxes. Tenders should provide corresponding prices from minimum number ordered through to the 6700 maximum.
Box Specification: Comprising Vegetable/Potato crates designed and built to BS7611 standards with imported kiln dried timber.

BS7611 1992. Class B. Rated to stack 8 high
Nominal 25mm gaps all round to allow air flow
2 x Diagonal boards – planned and chamfered, 1 on inside of each end panel
4 x Bolted corner posts using M8 bolts
2 x Centre vertical posts fixed with nail plates for added box strength
2-way entry pallet base with 3 x bearers
All boards 25mm thick
Contract Conditions:
Liquidated Damages – £2,000 per week or part thereof
Rectification Period – 6 Months
Retention Percentage – 3%
Contractor’s Insurance Cover – £5,000,000
Insurance Liability of Employer – £10,000,000
Insurance of Works – Employer Insures
