Backing for mixed-use Monmouthshire scheme
Plans to develop more than 260 homes and 60,000 sq ft of business space on a strategically important site in Monmouthshire are recommended for approval at a planning committee meeting next week (6 June 2017).WYG, on behalf of Monmouthshire County Council, has lodged plans for a 34.1-acre site located on the northern side of Undy between the Rockfield Grove housing estate and the M4 motorway.It is one of seven strategic sites that are allocated to meet “a substantial part” of the county’s new housing requirement.The proposals include the development of up to 266 new houses and 60,000 sq ft of business space (B1). About 25 per cent of the residential element will be affordable housing.The development aims to provide new housing, generate employment and economic opportunities and improve the image of the area.The scheme will go before Monmouthshire County Council’s planning committee on 6 June 2017 and is recommended for approval in a planning officer’s report prepared for the meeting.This is subject to the agreement of financial contributions including £200,000 towards the new Magor/Undy train station, £175,000 towards public transport and £800,000 towards off-site recreation facilities.
